racists? us? no!

This story in the times about black enclaves being excluded from incorporated towns in North Carolina and denied services like sewage, trash pickup, and running water (!) is depressing enough. But fear not, the exclusion is not due to racism.

"Honey, I work with blacks and I love to work with the blacks," said Virginia Saunders, in her 10th year as a county commissioner. "I wish you could talk to some of the black people that I have helped."

Virgina, a tip: If you'd like to not seem racist, referring to them as "the blacks" does not help.
