Thanks, Brad.

Thanks and good luck to Brad -- can't wait to see what you do next. And a big hearty fuck-you to rumormongers who stir shit up just to demoralize people who do good work. If you don't have enough drama in your life, go make something that millions of people think is valuable.

Update:
Just to make it clear, my frustration was with Valleywag gossiping about Brad and LJ and 6A without ever contributing anything positive to our community. I was not complaining about anything that people have said on LJ. (Except giving a bunch of good charities a bum rap, but that was only a few folks.)

That being said, anybody in our community who's got something they want me to pass along to the LJ team (we're definitely listening, and working to improve how we communicate) is more than welcome to comment here or on email or anything else.

Thanks. :)
This place was better when you were in charge.

Best of wishes to you, Brad.
Dude, I've run around all day explaining to people that EFF and Creative Commons are GOOD. Am trying to figure out why they can't go to the websites themselves to fact check. OY.

(never mind that EFF has been around longer than half the people bitching about this shit).
oh hell, the EFF predates the *web itself*. don't go looking for logic on this.
well spoken sir!
I wish Brad all the best too, and I certainly haven't been spreading rumours, but...

Well, the thing is, LJ is popular because of its customers. If other people weren't here, LJ would be useless. I came because of other people...they make LJ worth it. Not LJ in and of itself. So, in a way, those people causing drama, right or wrong, are creating something others think is valuable.

And yes, I'm a paid user. I've spent a great deal of money on LJ over the years. And I think that gives me, as a paying customer, a right to not care for the way things are being handled. Not that I agree with the way others are showing their disapproval. But, it comes from anger over the way things are being handled. If people felt they were being heard, they'd have no reason to harass a man that has nothing to do with the mess, in a time which should be celebrated.
Not to mention that the majority of LJ's paying customers are part of a fandom. Why else would anyone need 100 icons, unless it was to pimp out their fandom?

LJ is cutting off it's nose to spite it's face.
Right back atcha there, buddy.
The maturity and professionalism of everyone who works at 6A truly impresses me. 0_o
Except we are the people who create the content that your advertisers think is valuable, at least in terms of eyeballs we draw to the site. The only reason gossip-rag rumours are persisting is that it's been five days now without an official response from you folks.

So, noted, but please do try to direct your rage at those actually responsible for this whole mess: SixApart and LiveJournal.
For every minute LJ/6A fails to officially and publicly address the many, many questions from their paying customers, more and more rumours (be they on LJ or other news sites) will surface and start living their own lives. 6A employees posting big fuck you's in their LJ in response to this isn't going to change anything.

This isn't rocket science, really. It's just common sense.
Thank you. Now that you have criticised the rumourmongers, perhaps you could address the paying customers who are trying to remain calm and ask serious questions about LiveJournal's policies and customer relations.
Classy.
Wow. A new low. Nice work there VP of Six Apart.
Is it really so hard to just speak to your customer base?? Cause at the very moment, someone standing up and just saying, "we will be with you in a moment, we apologize for the delay," would go done SO well right now.

In conclusion, EPIC FAIL LJ.
Wow, it's nice to know how much you folks really care about your users. We want to be on your side, we really do, but not when you stoop to such levels of stupidity.
Okay. Hello?! Are the concepts of customer service and public relations utterly foreign to everyone who works at Six Apart? As well as the the concept that employees posting publicly using their corporate identity might do well to adhere to standards of polite behavior?

I too am a paying customer and I have yet to hear one word from anyone at 6A/LJ addressing any of the many legitimate concerns that have been raised.

As others have already said, the more time passes before anyone at 6A/LJ manages an official statement, the more the rumors will continue to fly. Because many of us don't know what to believe anymore.

That said, I certainly wish [info]brad luck in his future endeavors. I think all of us here appreciate what he has built.
Classy [2]
you know, a lot of us do make things that are valuable. in some cases, they are even things that "millions of [other] people" think are valuable.

the fact that millions of people think lj is valuable (included in those "millions" would be us, your users, by the way) doesn't mean that lj never screws up, and that no one ever has a right to be upset when lj does screw up.

and if your comment wasn't directed to users who are concerned over lj's most recent suspension of journals with no warnings, then i apologize for responding to it as such. you might clarify who you're cursing at, though, if i did misunderstand.
ah, sorry i was unclear. i meant the gossip blogs that were insinuating negative things about Brad or other folks at Six Apart, or the work we do. I am completely understanding and sympathetic that some people in the LJ community might be frustrated with us, and I'm working with the rest of the LJ team to help show that we're listening and trying to be more responsive.

Sorry for the mixup!
I'm curious as to why people are assuming this is directed at fandom, considering it's more likely that the reference is to the people stirring up rumors about Brad's personal life in the original Valleywag entry.
Shit, I just realized that. : ( Now I feel like an ass.

Guh. ~gets hit with a clue-by-four~
What else are we supposed to believe since you won't talk to customers. If all we get is mockery from Burr, and 'fuck you' from the VP, and complete radio silence on your ongoing anti-customer stance, all we can say is 'fuck you, too'. You have completely demoralised your customers, paying and otherwise, and violated our trust in your entire organisation.
i'm sorry you feel that way, and i will be working wth the LJ team to make it clearer that the LJ community and the LJ business team are on the same side. I should have been more explicit -- my antagonism was towards outside gossip bloggers who were talking about LJ and Brad and our community in a negative way.

To the people commenting on this entry...

Okay, I've stayed out of this mess up until this point. I think that LJ/6A should have responded by now, yes. I'm not involved in fandom, but by this point I'm just as disgusted as most of you all.
However, attacking someone on their journal as a result of a vague comment that they made isn't cool. It's quite possibly not even related to this situation at all.

Read that and think about it before you comment here.

(And sorry to anildash for commenting on your journal. I generally don't comment on random entries as a rule, that was just bothering me quite a bit)

Even if we don't deserve a decent response (we do), we certainly do not deserve more abuse. This seems to be simple proof positive that you do not respect any of the members of fandom or even those merely concerned about their treatment. You do not deign to treat your paying customers with the respect they deserve, even as they ask you (respectfully) for an explanation of your actions. We are not all macro-posting trolls, nor are we all below you.
Wow, I'm very sorry. I really can't express how embarassed I am.
grow up.

honestly, did you put a mature tag on this post? Using the f word is a no-no in polite society.

jerk.
did you seriously come to my personal journal, use an icon that says "fuck", complain about me using the same word, and then tell me to both grow up and be polite while calling me a jerk? I'd think it was an attempt at sarcasm if it weren't so self-contradictory.
Hi. :) I'm trying to make it a policy not to spam on anyone's personal entry, but I just wanted to say a few things. I'm guessing that this entry is directed at the Valleywag article more than anything else, but considering the level of paranoia I'm seeing that nobody is doing anything to alleviate, I can understand why people are getting upset. I hope you understand that that's why this is happening, and I apologise in advance, on my part, if (more) people come over here yelling at you.

(To my fellows? Please knock it off. We're not winning any points if we spam personal journals.)
no worries, i understand and fully expect that people will comment on my personal LJ since I work at 6A -- you're always welcome. And sorry the target of my frustration was unclear.
Oh, dear. This is foolish. If you want to support [info]brad you should do an article about his accomplishments and ignore the gossip. By responding directly you're putting the gossip on an equal level with official news.
i totally agree, and am working on exactly that. until then, i was just venting my spleen at Valleywag, whose author is on my friends list and would see my frustration. See? My own personal passive-aggressive lameness! :)
Far be it from me to defend 6A -- you guys are so not my favorite people right now -- but I think Anil's charming comment was aimed more at certain shit-stirrers over at ValleyWag.

Check the comments. The spooge flows thickly.
I've an f-lister who's saying the same thing, only she has info through a relative who's connected to the industry via blah-blah-blah-etc-etc... you get the idea. Apparently the politics are aimed squarely at [info]brad.
